What is Cosmetic Mole Removal?
Cosmetic Mole Removal is the latest way to remove harmless moles from the body, especially the face, without leaving noticeable scarring. The machine uses radio surgery diathermy technology to shave the mole until it is smooth and flat with the skin surface. Scarring is minimised with this technology as it does not cause damage to the normal surrounding tissue.
This procedure:
- Doesn’t require sutures
- Is completed by one of our Skin Doctors
- Has minimal, if any, scarring
- Is quick and simple!
How is a Cosmetic Mole Removal completed?
Harmless moles are removed quite easily. The area around the mole is anaesthetised with a local anaesthetic. Once numb the mole is removed or shaved flush with the skin. The technique is much like putting “a hot knife through butter”. There is no bleeding as blood vessels are sealed off. There is no need for sutures.
After the procedure, you will be left with a small, raw area which will be dressed with an ointment especially designed to minimise scarring and infection. Any procedure can lead to unacceptable scar formation, but this technique gives the best cosmetic result. The end result is usually flat skin which is occasionally paler that the surrounding normal skin.
Do the moles grow back?
Harmless moles can penetrate into the deeper tissue and even regrow over many years. On rare occasions moles can regrow due to their original depth in the skin. If this happens, your doctor can easily re-treat the area.
Who completes the treatment?
One of our skin Doctors will complete the procedure – not a Dermal Therapist. Our doctors are well trained in distinguishing between harmless and abnormal moles and have had years of experience completing this procedure. If they feel the mole could be cancerous or troublesome, they will either biopsy or excise the lesion and send it for pathological analysis.
Our Doctors are also able to remove any unwanted skin tags or warts upon consultation of the area. Sometimes these spots don’t look like how you imagined them – they may be skin coloured bumps or groups of tiny lumps that you never knew were possible to remove.
