Winter skin is caused by harsh weather conditions that can not only damage your skin but cause extreme discomfort throughout these months. Although there are fantastic skin care products out there that can help ease the condition, there are many habits you can focus on integrating into your daily routine to help combat your case of winter skin.
1. Stay Hydrated to help winter skin
As the weather begins to cool down, so does our daily intake of water which is when we often need it the most to help reduce the effects of winter skin. Low humidity strips our skin of essential natural oils that help protect it from the environment and without hydration from within your skin can begin to feel tight and dry. To prevent your skin from becoming dehydrated it’s best to continue sipping on water throughout the day or if you find this difficult try indulging in natural teas with warm water for a warmer alternative.
2. Select A Good Cleanser
Unfortunately, many cleansers often feature harsh chemicals that can dry your skin out making the feeling of your winter skin worse. Some ingredients to avoid are alcohols and fragrances as these are well-known for irritating skin and will only harm your skin more if it is dry or beginning to crack. 3. Exfoliate

This will help maintain beautiful, glowing skin instead of a dull, dehydrated complexion.
4. Short Showers
In winter our showers tend to not only get hotter but also longer. Having hot, long showers however is a massive no-no when it comes to preventing winter skin. These types of showers will not only dehydrate you (which goes against tip number 1!), but also strip your skin of moisture, such as natural oils, that are produced by the skin. The best way to tell if you may have gone a little hard of the heat front is when you exit the shower, and your skin is red and itchy. 5. Moisturise
Moisturising after showering can be a great skin saver when the right moisturiser is chosen. To help combat winter skin it is best to look for a good quality moisturiser that is appropriate for your skin and has no hidden nasties. You may even have two different types of moisturisers, a daytime one which is generally a thinner consistency and a night-time one that is thicker to ensure hydration through even the coldest of nights. Bonus Tip!
Another important tip that doesn’t directly help with winter skin but will help your skin overall is that sunscreen isn’t only for summer. We tend to forget how important the application of SPF is during winter because of the colder weather but harmful UV rays, especially in Queensland, can still harm your skin.
